Do you have a few pieces of furniture that no longer go with the rest of your décor? If you think you’ll get some use out of them in the future, it’s best to keep these pieces in a storage unit until you need them. But, how can you keep furniture in pristine condition inside Las Vegas storage units? Follow these tips:
Disassemble furniture.
It may seem like a hassle, but it’s best to take apart all of your furniture prior to putting it in storage. Why? First, it’s much easier to transport and store smaller pieces than it is to move the actual piece of furniture. Also, you can wrap the smaller pieces in bubble wrap to protect them from damage, but wrapping a large piece of furniture may be more difficult. If you want to keep the screws, nuts, or bolts that are used to put the furniture together, put all of these items inside a small plastic bag and store it near the furniture.
Clean everything.
Every piece of furniture should be thoroughly cleaned before it goes into a storage unit. Wipe each piece with a soft cloth to remove dust and debris, and then apply an appropriate cleaner. Be sure to let the cleaner on the furniture dry completely before you put the item in storage. If you don’t, the moisture from the cleaner could cause mold to grow.
Leave space between each piece.
Once you’ve transported everything to the storage facility, it’s time to start putting the items inside the unit. Take your time when moving furniture pieces into the unit. Be sure that you leave space between each piece of furniture so nothing bumps together and causes damage.
Put plastic on the floor.
Before moving furniture into the unit, it may be wise to lay down a thick plastic sheet on the floor. This makes it easier for you to slide heavy pieces in without hurting yourself or your beloved furniture. It also protects the bottom of your furniture from anything debris that may be on the floor. If you’re concerned about flooding, place pallets or boards in the unit to raise your furniture off of the floor. Learn more about the five great places you can find free or low cost pallets.
Wrap your furniture.
Wrap each piece of your furniture in plastic wrap, blankets, or sheets and secure it with tape so it doesn’t come loose while in storage. If the unit you choose isn’t climate controlled, you should think about adding a second or third layer of protection to valuable pieces. Items that are fragile—such as mirrors, pictures, or lamps—should be wrapped in bubble wrap instead of plastic wrap, blankets or sheets.
